In 1985, three ambitious college students meet in Beijing, and pin their success and fortunes on securing student visas in the United States. Only one is successful, but his poor English forces him to take menial part-time jobs to support his studies. In the meantime, his two friends build a successful English language school the trio had dreamed of together.
