Upon hearing the Beatles song "Norwegian Wood", Toru recalls a period of his life during the the 1960s, when his friend Kizuki killed himself and he grew very close to Naoko, Kizuki's girlfriend. As the two attempt, in starkly different ways, to deal with their grief, Toru develops a bond with another woman, Midori.
