Sixteen-year-old Bao-li falls in love with older student Jia-ji, who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a daughter. Although they are able to survive at first with the help of friends and family, Jia-jia becomes weary and has an affair. She leaves Bao-li when his mother gambles away their savings, and he turns to crime to win her back.
