Tokyo police detective Kenichi Takabe is investigating bizarre murders where each victim has an X carved in the neck. All the killers have been quickly arrested after making confessions, but cannot explain their motives. Working with a psychologist, Takabe learns that all the killers had contact with a stranger immediately before committing the crime.
